Politics without leadership

One of the great criticisms of electric vehicles is the power they rely on often comes from fossil fuels, leading critics to question how "green" they are. A British firm has a solution for that — a carport topped with photovoltaic cells that can charge an EV.

Specialty glass and plastic manufacturer Romag says the PowerPark is just the thing for parking lots where electric vehicles may one day compete for spots to plug in. The first PowerPark was installed at the company's headquarters, and Romag says additional installations are planned around the United Kingdom..."

Part of my daily online reading (well, skimming) is gagdet and technology related sites. One of them is Wired. These sides all hammer home, almost every month, just how many solutions there are to the worlds environmental (and human) problems, but these solutions don't get picked up becasue of politics that is spineless. Western leaders spend far too much time watchign opinion pols instead of leading. Leadership requires educating your population and then allowing them to make up their own mind on which way to go, not watching opinion polls and trying to manufacture consent for politicians ideas in the media.

I notice above the regular environmental report greenpeace done on electronics makers has several of them, including Apple, in the red. This is disgusting. If the envrironment is in critical danger, and it appears that it is, why not take action against these companies? In a war time economy, where the state is threatened by an external enemy, resources are mobilised quickly and logically to do whatever is necessary to fight the foe. We can thus kill and maim and destroy vast slabs of the surface of the earth with great effciency.

Why when faced with other problems do we just sit back and bury our heads in the sand? And more importantly, why do we do that when solutions are at hand?
